Welcome to Umbiance Center for the Performing Arts

Umbiance Center for the Performing Arts desires to touch the lives of our dancers by helping them realize they have something unique to offer the world if only they have the courage to dream and the determination to make their dreams come true.  At UCPA we greet each dancer and parent by name.  We get to know each student so that we can understand how they learn best. Emphasis is based on great technical training and the 3 C's Character, Confidence & Community.  Students will also learn the importance of giving back, being earnest and discipline. Each year students will be a part of events, performances and dance recitals that will aid in giving to one community charity.

UCPA STUDENT DANCES in 2015 Special Olympics for DEBBIE ALLEN

Congratulations Nya

Dancer Nya Harris was diagnosed with epilepsy just last year.  In the short time that she was diagnosed, she has overcome such great odds.  Nya set a goal to audition for the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles California.   Recently she was afforded the opportunity to auditon in front of a panel of four judges from DADA.  With over 1,000's  of applicants, Nya Harris was among the few dancers choosen from the Virginia, DC and Maryland area to secure a position at dancing in the 2015 Special Olympics Ceremony.

Every time the music started up for a new song, I got excited because I knew I was in for a fresh experience. Of course, the funky vocals were complimented by the wonderfully engaging choreography by Kay Harris and Kyrai L. Martin. I was impressed by how the dancing was tailored to fit the ages and abilties of the various ensembles, which ranged in age from small children to teens and adults. Those dancers who had more gymnastic ability showed it off, and those who didn’t still captivated the audience with their enthusiasm and their stage presence.
